OK 39

Highway History:
OK 39 once had its eastern terminus at OK 99 in Konawa. OK 99 entered Konawa from the northeast, then traveled along present day OK 39 east to around its current four-lane crossing of the Canadian River which is just south of the current eastern terminus of OK 39. By 1970, OK 99 (currently duplexed with U.S. 377) had been rerouted to go straight south from Dewright (present-day Wolf), and OK 39 was extended east about four miles to meet OK 99 and OK 56.

The rest of the route has remained the same since 1950.

Highway Review:
OK 39 is an almost 70-mile long east-west state highway that spans from U.S. 62/277/OK 9 east of Chickasha to U.S. 377/OK 3E/OK 99 north of Ada. If one continues straight ahead at the eastern terminus, one will be at the northbound beginning of OK 56.

Heading east from U.S. 62/277/OK 9 the first intersection motorists encounter is at OK 76, ten miles into the highway's route. Two miles east of that intersection one goes through the town of Dibble. The highway continues heading almost completely due east with a few minor curves here and there and intersects U.S. 77 and OK 74 in south Purcell. OK 39 then heads north along U.S. 77 and OK 74 through Purcell before U.S. 77 and OK 39 head to the east. The two highways cross the Canadian River and immediately after the bridge U.S. 77 heads to the north and OK 39 continues east into the town of Lexington. Other than a short duplex with OK 102, there is nothing major for 25 miles between Lexington and U.S. 177. Eleven miles east of U.S. 177 OK 39 travels through Konawa and four miles later the highway finds its end at U.S. 377/OK 3E/99. The road is a state highway east of U.S. 377, but it is OK 56 North, which travels through Wewoka, Okemah, Okfuskee, and Okmulgee.
