Highway History/Review:
Interstate 235 spans five miles on its trek through central Oklahoma City. It begins at the interchange of Interstate 35 and 40. The freeway is signed with U.S. 77 its whole distance. The section from N. 36th St. to Interstate 44 was completed in the 1970s. The southern three miles were completed in 1989 during the 100-year celebration of the Oklahoma Land Run, thus, the highway is known as the Centennial Expressway. After the highway was completed, the freeway was awarded the Interstate 235 designation. The older section is 4 lanes (2 in each direction) and lacks exit numbers. The newer portion is 6 lanes wide and has exit numbers.

Interstate 235 starts out its northerly trek with an exit for Sheridan Ave., which also leads to the Bricktown entertainment district. The other two northbound exits to access the downtown area are at Lincoln Blvd. (Exit 1D), and Harrison Ave. (Exit 1E) In the southbound lanes there are exits for N. 6th St. (Exit 1F) and N. 10th St. (Exit 1G) The remaining exits are for N.E. 23rd St. (Exit 2A), N.E. 36th St. (unmarked Exit 3), and N.E. 50th St./Santa Fe Ave. (unmarked Exit 4A). The Interstate 44 exits would probably be numbered Exits 4B & C. The freeway then transitions into the Broadway Extension and U.S. 77 continues northbound heading towards Edmond. This section of Interstate 235 is scheduled for reconstruction in the next several years.
