Highway History:
The southern section is the original OK 92. The northern OK 92, which goes
from OK 152 in Mustang to OK 66 in Yukon, was commissioned in the 1950s. The two
sections have never been joined.
The southern terminus of OK 92 from the 1950s until recently was at the Lake Burtschi State Park west of Norge. Sometime between trips I took in the area in 2002 and 2005, the southern terminus was truncated to the U.S. 62/U.S. 277/OK 9 intersection two miles east of Interstate 44. We have pictures of the end signs at both places.
Highway Review:
As stated above, prior to 2005, the southern OK 92 began its
journey about two miles north of U.S. 277 in the Lake Burtschi
State Park. Several maps showed that the southern terminus is at U.S.
277, but that was never the case. OK 92 traveled east for several
miles before heading through its first town, Norge. A few miles
later, OK 92 entered Chickasha. At U.S. 81/U.S. 277, OK 92 went
north, and multiplexed with the federal highways until reaching U.S. 62/OK 9,
where OK
92 headed east. OK 92 was sporadically signed along these multiplexes. Just east of Interstate 44, OK 92 headed north on
its own once again.
Today's OK 92 route begins at U.S. 62/U.S. 277/OK 9 and goes through the town of Amber before hitting its northern terminus 18 miles later at OK 37 in Tuttle.
